The Paterson Education Association, the teachers’ union, awarded scholarships to two graduating Eastside High School students.

Za’Mera Jackson received the Peter A. Tirri Scholarship and Diofely Gomez was awarded the Mildred L. Wright Scholarship. Each woman received $1,000 to fund her college education.

Both students displayed “academic excellence” and showed a desire to pursue a degree in education.

“We wish Za’ Mera and Diofely much success in college in the Fall. Our members are so very proud of them and we hope to one day see them working as employees in the Paterson Public School District,” John McEntee, Jr., president of the Paterson Education Association, said in announcing the awards on Thursday.
