The police seized a loaded Glock handgun from an alleged drug dealer on Summer Street, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Christian Belfield, 42, of Paterson, was arrested on numerous drugs and weapons offenses on Friday.

Police observed him operating a vehicle and selling drugs from it on Summer Street and Hamilton Avenue.

Detectives made contact with him and seized 40 bags of crack cocaine and a loaded Glock 9MM handgun with 8 rounds, four being hollow point ammos. They also seized $833 in suspected drug proceeds.

Belfield is being held at the Passaic County Jail pending a court hearing.

I feel for the police-who promise to protect and serve and do so. How can they, if the courts give free passes every day to the very people the police are trying hard to protect us from? Imagine working a job, where every day you must face the prospect-you risk your life every day-and the courts will undo what you just risked your life for? Not once, but many times. Would you take that on? Fortunately for all us non-criminals, there are many that will.

Someday, I dream of a time I can walk through Paterson-free of fear of being robbed, shot or car-jacked if i blink my eyes, I lived there briefly, have first-hand experience. There was a time-I used to do this all the time in the 60s-shopped at Spira's for shorts and shoes-army navy store-took the red and tan bus in whenever i wanted to do some shopping, with no fear-it wasn't perfect, but it wasn't overly dangerous either. Bring it back. Must be an uphill struggle for law enforcement. It can happen, but not without support from the court system-which I know firsthand is overwhelmed with cases large and small. Was called for jury duty 3 times there, in 3 years!
