The police seized two loaded handguns in separate incidents over the weekend, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Faquir Melton, 23, and Donte Jackson, 23, both of Paterson, were arrested on various weapons offenses.

Melton had a loaded Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun on Saturday at around 12:55 a.m. He was with a large unruly crowd on Main and Weiss streets. Police said the crowd was drinking alcohol, playing loud music, and obstructing the roadway.

Police dispersed the crowd. Melton tried to flee when police were trying to issue a ticket. He was detained and the gun seized.

Jackson was arrested with a loaded Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun at around 1:47 a.m. He was with about 50 people on Montgomery and Summer streets. The crowd had blocked the roadway with double parked vehicles and were drinking and playing loud music.

Police observed a handgun in Jackson’s waist. Jackson tried to flee. He was arrested after a foot pursuit.

Jackson was additionally charged with resisting arrest, police said.
