Sixth suspect arrested in the Paterson slaying of Newark man

A suspect wanted in the murder of a Newark man in Paterson was arrested in Delaware, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jaquan A. Thomas, 31, of Paterson, was arrested by the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force on September 28. He has been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a handgun.

Thomas was allegedly involved in a coordinated attack that led to the slaying of 21-year-old Jose Figueroa of Newark on Totowa and Redwood avenues in Paterson on May 1.

Thomas is the sixth suspect arrested in the murder of Figueroa.

Five others were arrested over the course of the past five months. Chelsee Ramirez, 19; a 17-year-old boy; Ismael Leon, 19, all of Paterson. Jenna Peselli, 24, of Newton. And a 17-year-old Clifton boy. All five were charged for their alleged role in the murder.

Thomas is being held at the Passaic County Jail. He could face life in prison if convicted.
