Paterson teen, twice arrested with guns, pleads guilty

A teenager pleaded guilty to gun possession in New Jersey Superior Court on Monday morning.

Cornell Day, 19-year-old, of Paterson, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon. Under the plea deal, he will serve five years in state prison. He will be eligible for parole after 42 months.

On February 5, 2021, he was a passenger in a vehicle on East 22nd Street. He allegedly had a handgun in his possession, he admitted in court.

On April 13, 2021, he was on Jefferson and North Main streets. He had a gun in his fanny pack, he admitted.

Day went up to the 11th grade, he said in court.

Day is scheduled to be sentenced on December 17 at 9 a.m.
