Authorities are investigating a Paterson police-involved shooting that occurred early Saturday morning, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police responded to Garrison Street at around 3:20 a.m. to arrest a person in possession of a firearm in the area. They heard gunshots in the vicinity and responded. That’s when police encountered a person.

During the encounter, a police officer fired a shot, striking the individual. Authorities said the person has been taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
