Imitation gun found near Florida man shot, killed by Paterson police officer

An imitation black pistol was recovered near the body of a Florida man shot and killed by a Paterson police officer, according to authorities.

Hui Zhang, 33, of Pensacola, Florida, was identified as the person killed in the October 10 incident on Van Houten Street by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, which is investigating the incident, on Friday.

Zhang was involved in a vehicle collision on Straight and Van Houten streets at around 4:12 p.m. on October 10. While running from the scene of the accident, Zhang, who appeared to be armed with a handgun, attempted to enter multiple vehicles.

Detective Victor Lora, a 16-year veteran of Paterson police force, pursued Zhang on foot. Lora fired his service weapon, killing Zhang at the scene at around 4:23 p.m.

Authorities found a 9mm P.A.K. Zoraki semiautomatic blank pistol near Zhang’s body, according to findings of a preliminary investigation.
