One teen dead, another injured in stabbing outside Paterson’s Eastside High School

A 14-year-old juvenile has died after being stabbed outside of Eastside High School in Paterson. According to the police, the incident occurred on Friday at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing at 147 Park Avenue, where they found two juveniles, a 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, outside the school. Both victims were transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where the 14-year-old juvenile was later pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have not released any information on suspects or motives at this time.

This problem is so sad. Unfortunately, more security and police will not help given the fact that two days earlier (Wednesday 2/15/23) Superintendent Shafer indicated security will be heightened as a result of four students being shot that Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, a parent came to the city council meeting the following Tuesday and stated her daughter came home traumatized because she watched her friend die while police stood by and did nothing. I imagine it may be similar to what I watched on video when Tishell Jackson was being beat and shot in front of a Paterson Police officer who did nothing. More policing of this community with cops who don’t believe the people they serve have value will only exacerbate the problem. Also, so sad is the fact that during the same board meeting that occurred before this horrific event President Nakima Redmond had nothing to say about the four students being shot in her president report and only one board member mentioned anything. How do you solve a problem when you won’t even put effort into discussing it at a boe are of education meeting. #shame PPS and PBOE.
