Garfield man found guilty of four Paterson robberies

A 21-year-old Garfield man, Jimmy German, has been found guilty by a jury on multiple robbery charges, according to Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

German was convicted on February 22, 2023, after a trial that began on February 8, 2023.

The State presented evidence at trial that on January 29, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m., in the area of 21st Avenue and E. 22nd Street, in Paterson, German robbed Angel Matos, 45, of his personal belongings including cash and two cell phones.

Then on January 29, 2021, at approximately 6:20 a.m., in the area of 6th Avenue and E. 19th Street, in the Paterson, German robbed Juan Clase, 22, of his personal belongings, including his wallet and cell phone.

Then on January 29, 2021, at approximately 7:10 a.m., in the area of 12th Avenue and E. 28th Street, in the Paterson, German robbed Julio Pujols, 59, of his personal belongings including cash, food, and cell phone.

Lastly, on January 31, 2021, at approximately 11:00 a.m., in the area of Liberty Street and Wayne Avenue, in Paterson, German robbed Irwin Ortiz, 31, of his personal belongings including cash and cell phone.

German was apprehended by members of the Paterson Police Department on January 31, 2021, and found to be in possession of a handgun.

The jury returned guilty verdicts on first-degree robbery, three counts of second-degree robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and fourth-degree unlawful taking of means of conveyance.

German was remanded to the Passaic County Jail pending sentencing, which is currently scheduled for March 31, 2023.
