Paterson man charged with attempted murder in 12th Avenue shooting

Rashane D. Lewis, 24-year-old, of Paterson, has been arrested in connection with a shooting investigation that occurred on March 10, 2023, in the area of 12th Avenue and William Street, according to authorities.

Lewis has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree, unlawful possession of a handgun in the second degree, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the second degree, terroristic threats in the third degree, and resisting arrest, a disorderly persons offense.

On March 10, 2023, at approximately 9:04 p.m., the Paterson Police Department received a report of a shooting in the area of 12th Avenue and William Street in Paterson, New Jersey.

Upon arrival, authorities found a 20-year-old male resident of Paterson suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound. The victim was immediately provided with aid and transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center.

Following an investigation, police determined that the victim had been hit by gunfire while in the area of 12th Avenue and William Street, and identified Lewis as the shooter.

Lewis was apprehended by members of the Paterson Police Department on Tuesday, in the area of 12th Avenue and East 22nd Street.

Lewis faces decades in prison if convicted on the charges. He is scheduled to have a hearing on April 11, 2023, regarding pretrial detention motions filed by the State.
