A man has been sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for distributing fentanyl that caused the death of another person, federal authorities said.

Wyzier Peterson, 25, of Paterson, has been sentenced to 150 months in prison for distributing fentanyl that led to the death of another person.

Peterson had previously pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of fentanyl. He was sentenced by U.S. District judge Brian Martinotti in Newark federal court on Wednesday.

On June 30, 2019, Peterson sold heroin and fentanyl that was later consumed by the victim, leading to their death.

In addition to the prison sentence, Peterson has also been sentenced to three years of supervised release.
