On Thursday morning, the Paterson Fire Department responded to a 911 call from a residence on 9th Avenue, between East 18th and East 19th streets, at approximately 6:18 a.m., authorities said.

A six-week-old child was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where the child was pronounced deceased at approximately 6:56 a.m.

Detectives from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit were notified and responded to the hospital to conduct an investigation into the tragic incident.

The cause of death of the infant remains unknown as authorities continue their investigation.
