A 26-year-old Paterson man was shot and wounded, but not in Paterson, according to police.
The man, who has not been identified, got himself to University Medical Center in Newark after being shot in the leg.
Paterson police were dispatched to the hospital at 1:21 a.m. on April 24, 2023 after receiving a report of a gunshot victim. When they arrived, they spoke to the man, who told them he had been shot in the area of Presidential Boulevard and Temple Street in Paterson at about 11:45 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2023.
However, detectives investigating the matter have since determined that the victim was not wounded in Paterson, but rather sustained his injury in a location outside the city, authorities said on Friday, May 5, 2023.
Police have not released any further information about the shooting, including a possible motive or suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
