Jury convicts Paterson man for sexually abusing five-year-old girl

Eldrys Gonzalez-DeJesus, a 44-year-old resident of Paterson, has been found guilty of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child after a jury trial on Friday.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit received a report on March 28, 2022, alleging that Gonzalez-DeJesus had sexually abused a child.

An investigation was launched, and multiple witnesses, including the victim, a six-year-old child, were interviewed. The victim disclosed that Gonzalez-DeJesus had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions when she was five years old at her Paterson residence.

The sentencing is scheduled for September 15, 2023. Gonzalez-DeJesus will remain in the custody of the Passaic County Jail until sentencing. He could be sentenced to 5-10 years in state prison and must register as a sex offender.
