Paterson man arrested after shots fired on East 35th Street

The police arrested a man after responding to report of shots fired on East 35th Street on Wednesday evening.

Cawuan Cromartie, 20, of Paterson, has been charged with second degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and fourth degree obstructing the administration of law.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the area of East 35th Street and 19th Avenue. Upon arrival, police discovered a potential crime scene, but no victims were found.

As officers arrived at the scene, they witnessed several individuals fleeing the area. One of the individuals, later identified as Cromartie, was apprehended in the area of East 39th Street and 19th Avenue following a foot pursuit. During the pursuit, a loaded handgun was discarded and subsequently recovered by the police.

Cromartie could face a lengthy prison term if convicted on the charges.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist in the case.
