Paterson firefighter accused of stealing gold chain, authorities say

Antonio-Moore

A Paterson firefighter has been arrested for allegedly stealing a gold chain, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Antonio Moore, 39, of Newark, was arrested on Thursday. He has been charged with third-degree theft.

On August 21, 2022, Clifton police arrested and transported a suspect to Saint Joseph’s Hospital. Authorities said the suspect’s personal property, including a gold chain and arrest warrant paperwork, was placed into a property bag. This bag was left on a gurney when the officers escorted the suspect to a bathroom.

Clifton police officers returned and found the bag missing. They subsequently found the bag inside a trash bin, but the gold chain was missing. Surveillance footage of the location showed a man, later identified as Moore, in Paterson Emergency Medical Service uniform remove the property bag from the unattended gurney, authorities said.

Moore, who has been a firefighter in Paterson for seven years, has been processed and released. He could face five years in state prison if convicted on the charge. He has a court date on July 5.
