Paterson man guilty of killing pregnant girlfriend

Donqua Thomas | Passaic County Prosecutor's Office

Donqua Thomas, 32, of Paterson, has been found guilty of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to possess firearms after a jury trial.

According to the State’s evidence, on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at approximately 1:37 p.m., Thomas shot Remy Lee four times in the parking lot outside 5 Christina Place. Lee, who was nine months pregnant with Thomas’ child, tragically succumbed to her injuries and died at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center. However, her child was successfully delivered and survived.

Eyewitnesses in the area rushed to the victim’s side after the shooting, including Lee’s mother, who heard Lee identify Thomas as the shooter. Thomas later surrendered himself without incident at Paterson Police headquarters two days after the incident.

During the subsequent police investigation, it was revealed that Thomas had parked his vehicle in the parking lot outside Lee’s apartment and waited for over an hour and a half before she arrived. As soon as Lee exited her vehicle, Thomas fired at her from inside his car and then fled the area.

Thomas faces life in prison at sentencing. Sentencing is scheduled for September 22.
