A woman has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a five-year-old girl, according to authorities.

Aurora Villacorta, 51, of Paterson, is accused of stabbing the child on Wednesday. Police said the girl was stabbed multiple times at around 4:10 p.m. on Carroll Street and Godwin Avenue.

Police said Villacorta, who is the child’s grandmother, stabbed her. They placed the grandmother under arrest and charged her with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Villacorta could face decades in prison if convicted on the charges.
