Paterson man receives life sentence for fatal shooting of pregnant woman

Donqua Thomas | Passaic County Prosecutor's Office

A Paterson man was sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman.

Donqua Thomas, 33, received the sentence Wednesday from Judge Justine A. Niccollai for the murder of Remy Lee, which occurred on October 29, 2020.

Lee was 31.

According to authorities, Thomas shot Lee, who was nine months pregnant with his child, four times in a parking lot at 5 Christina Place. Witnesses, including the victim’s mother, reported that Lee identified Thomas as her assailant before she was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where she later died. Remarkably, Lee’s child was successfully delivered and survived.

Evidence presented during the trial showed Thomas waited over an hour and a half in the parking lot before Lee arrived and shot her from his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Thomas was found guilty on June 21 of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and being a certain person not to possess firearms.
