A Paterson man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for his alleged role in a violent road rage incident in Paramus, according to Bergen County authorities.

Christian A. Velez, 24-year-old, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon for his alleged role in the December 28 incident.

Velez allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old man multiple times in the back, side, and arm on Route 4 East in Paramus after a road rage incident. He fled the scene, authorities said.

Authorities said the victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.

Paramus Police Department, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit identified Velez as the suspect and arrested him in Belleville on the same day. He is being held at the Bergen County Jail.

Velez could face a lengthy prison sentence if convicted on all the charges.
