A man has been arrested in connection to a homicide that unfolded on the evening of February 16, around 10:42 p.m., within a residence located at the intersection of East 21st Street and 19th Avenue in Paterson.
Alexander Gutierrez, 46, of Paterson, faces charges including murder, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, after the death of Logan Gonzalez, 33, from Union City.
Following a tip from a witness, police discovered Gonzalez with a gunshot wound to his lower back at the scene. He was promptly transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations indicated that Gutierrez possessed a revolver and was responsible for Gonzalez’s death. The state plans to seek pretrial detention for Gutierrez, with a court hearing to be scheduled.
The murder charge carries a potential sentence of 30 years to life imprisonment, while the handgun-related charges could result in 5 to 10 years in state prison for each.
