A 19-year-old male from Paterson has been charged in connection to the October 3, 2023 homicide in the area of Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson.
Brayan Caraballo, 19, of Paterson, is charged with murder, first degree; conspiracy to commit murder, first degree; attempted murder, first degree; unlawful possession of a weapon, second degree; and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second degree.
On October 3, 2023, at approximately 3:47 p.m., police were dispatched to Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson for a reported shooting. Three victims with gunshot wounds were located. The first victim, Jerrell Wright, 23, of Riverdale, sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and was pronounced deceased at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center. The other victims, Shaheem Clark, 19, of Elmwood Park, and Charles Obee, 57, of Paterson, survived.
The subsequent investigation identified Caraballo as one of the individuals involved in the shooting. A 16-year-old male was previously arrested for his participation in the shooting and is detained pending further court proceedings.
Caraballo was arrested in Pennsylvania and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion for pre-trial detention, which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge at a later date.
Murder has a sentencing range from a minimum of 30 years up to life imprisonment.
