A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a police officer’s vehicle in Paterson on Monday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:49 p.m. near the area of 111 Broadway, as the officer was exiting the police department parking lot on Memorial Drive. The officer remained at the scene and attempted to provide aid to the victim, a 51-year-old man from Newark.

The victim was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center with injuries to his arm and head but was later pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances of the accident.
