Last night the city council voted against the declaration of state of emergency. Only 2 members of the council voted for the measure while 6 voted against it.
Anthony Davis, the councilman from the crime-infested 1st ward attempted to get the declaration passed; but when it flopped, Mr Davis said next time a person is shot in the city those council members that voted against the measure should reflect on their vote.
Earlier in the week Governor Chris Christie had indicated he was not going to have any of it; the governor came out against the measure and levied charges of mismanagement on the shoulders of city officials; Mayor Jeffrey Jones concurred with him.
