A city man is undergoing surgery at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center following a shooting in McGee’s Alley during the early morning hours of Thursday, according to the Paterson Police Department.
The victim, 32-year-old, engaged in a struggle with an unknown suspect at the intersection of Ellison Street and McGee’s Alley, in the 1st Ward, at around 12:45 a.m. on Thursday.
“At this time, it appears that the victim was in the area when he became involved in some type of physical struggle with unknown suspect(s), and was shot during that struggle,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.
Police responded to the scene after receiving alerts of gunfire in the area. Officers found a crime scene at the intersection, but could not locate a victim, Murray said.
Minutes later, police received a call from the hospital’s emergency room stating a gunshot victim had arrived by private vehicle.
The victim sustained gunshot wound to the upper leg and hip area, police said. He was immediately taken in for surgery at the hospital. The victim is in stable condition, Murray said.
The investigation is continuing at this time, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Ed Taylor or Detective Rolando Polio of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
