The city’s police officers arrested a dozen people during their weekly narcotics sweep, according to police director Jerry Speziale.
Police seized 728 glassines of heroin, 24 baggies of marijuana, 26 grams of marijuana, and 100 blue capsules filled with crack-cocaine during the sweep which took place from March 15-21, 2016. $2,088 in suspected drug money was also seized, according to police.
Arrested were city residents Trayvon Sparks also known as “Face,” 26, of Bridge Street; Vaughan G. Kelly, 21, of East 24th Street; a 16-year-old city boy; Justen Santiago, 27, of Highland Street; Marco Aponte, 43, of Jefferson Street; and James Johnson, 41, of Hamilton Avenue.
Also arrested were Megan Siciliano, 29, of Warwick, NY; Shaun J. Lee, 29, of Mahwah; Andrew Campbell, 24, of Randolph; Derek R. Dreiss, 19, of Rockaway; Rasheed O. Barr, 25, of Clifton; and Christopher Renda, 29, of Randolph.
Siciliano, Lee, Campbell, Dreiss, Sparks, and Barr were arrested at 50 Auburn Street, a known drug spot, on March 15th, 2016.
Siciliano and Lee were charged on heroin possession. Campbell and Dreiss were charged with possession and intent to distribute as well as distribute near School 6.
Sparks and Barr were charged with having 628 glassines of heroin, 100 blue capsules filled with crack-cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. Both were also charged with resisting arrest by flight, according to police.
$667 in suspected drug money was taken from Sparks and $575 was sized from Barr, said police.
Renda and Kelly were charged with having 50 glassines of heroin at 770 East 25th Street on March 17th, 2016.
Kelly was also charged with resisting arrest by flight, said police.
On the same day, police arrested a 16-year-old city boy with 50 glassines of heroin at 208 Governor Street.
Santiago and Aponte were busted at 110 Madison Street on the same day.
Both were charged with having marijuana. 24 baggies of marijuana was seized during the bust, said police.
$369 in suspected drug money was seized from Santiago. $286 was taken from Aponte, according to police.
Johnson was arrested with 26 grams of marijuana on March 21st, 2016 at the intersection of 12th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard.
Johnson resisted arrest by flight and had an outstanding warrant. $191 in suspected drug money was seized from Johnson.
Police also made two high profile busts during the week which were previously reported. The Narcotics Unit busted a Broadway drug den leading to the arrest of 35 people. It also raided a Madison Avenue home recovering almost 3,000 glassines of heroin.
“Narcotics investigators will continue to tirelessly pursue anyone involved with illegal drugs in our city,” said Speziale.
