Eighteen candidates are vying for five school board seats up for grabs in November, according to the Passaic County Clerk’s Office.
Ten candidates are seeking the three available three-year full-term seats (* denotes incumbent):
- Corey Teague
- Nelly Celi
- Oshin Castillo*
- Nakima Redmon*
- Manny Martinez*
- Melissa Baralt
- Gerard Robertson
- Eddie Gonzalez
- Ramon Joaquin
- Eduardo Lanchipa.
Eight candidates are seeking the two unexpired seats:
- Justin Rucker
- Mosleh Uddin
- Amany Ramadan
- Robinson Rondon
- Eddy Olivares
- Davon Roberts
- Eddy Pichardo
- Vincent Arrington*
Former school board members Christopher Irving held one seat and Flavio Rivera held the other. Irving resigned in January after becoming the Passaic County superintendent of schools. He later became the superintendent of the Teaneck public schools.
Rivera resigned after winning an at-large city council seat in May.
School board members appointed Arrington to replace Irving. No one was appointed to replace Rivera. Arrington now has to defend his seat to serve out the rest of Irving’s term.
The unexpired terms end in 2019.
