Three men arrested in Paterson homicide

Three men were arrested on Thursday in connection with the killing of a man on 16th Avenue, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ashair Wilson, 22, of Paterson; Tysheik J. Williams, 26, of West Milford; and Yasmany Almodovar, 19, of Paterson, have been charged for their role in the homicide of 23-year-old Lexander Torres of Paterson three weeks ago.

Wilson and Williams are charged with first-degree murder, attempted-murder; second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a community handgun, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Almodovar is charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a community handgun, unlawful possession of a weapon; and third-degree hindering prosecution.

The incident that claimed the life of Torres began as a verbal and physical altercation between two groups on December 19, 2018 at around 7:10 p.m. outside 233 16th Avenue. Various people from both groups, including Wilson and Williams, took out handguns and opened fire.

Torres suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. A 24-year-old city man sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound.

The second victim was rushed to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center. He was treated and released.

Prosecutors have filed a motion for pretrial detention of the three suspects.
