Paterson to pave area, rehabilitate basketball court at Buckley Park for almost $312,700

Municipal officials are looking to spend $312,690 for paving and rehabilitation of the neglected basketball court at Buckley Park.

Part of the rehabilitation effort will include installation of new basketball hoops. Pathway in front of the recreation trailer will also be paved, according to councilman Luis Velez, vice chairman of the public works committee.

Municipal officials received two bids for the project ranging from $312,700 to $423,870. Jag Paving Corporation of Kearny, which is likely to receive the contract, was the “lowest responsible bidder,” according to municipal records.

Earlier in the year, the city spent $1.37 million to install an artificial turf field at Buckley Park which is located on the corner of Redwood and Chamberlain Avenue.

Municipal officials celebrated the renovation of the field in July.

      That's why paterson is broke and our Paterson schools are disgraceful, while Wayne, North Haledon and just about all Passaic county suburban grade schools are supplying 9 and 10 year old students with tablets and using those tablets for all type of lessons our children in Paterson are more than 35 students to a class and still using work books from the 1980s that I used in school 10. So I ask you is it really surprising that our kids end up selling drugs and shooting each other before they hit man hood ? Well I'm not because the shit happened to me and I know exactly how they feel only thing is that today with the internet kids grow up a lot faster and know a lot more a lot sooner. The real criminals are in city hall and in Trenton and in Washington DC.

        Oh by the way almost 1.4 million dollars for artificial turf !!! THATS RIDICULOUSLY OVER PRICED. The NFL pays about $400,000 to get a pro football field covered with artificial turf, if you don't believe me google it ( how much does the NFL pay for artificial turf) it's so easy an idiot can do it. That means you city council. Do you know how many tablets you can buy with a million dollars? Because that's how much you over paid. What am I talking about the million dollars was kick back money, sorry I forgot who I was talking about for a second there. They are not idiots they are CROOKS and of the worse kind. They steal from the poor nd give to the rich (themselves)

          You got it! You're damn right they aren't idiots, the idiots are the stupid voters who elect these scumbags every election. Mayor McCheese was broke as a joke, he's on record during his election campaign for Mayor saying how his family was struggling and that he can relate to how many Patersonians struggle to make ends meet, yet a few months after winning the election buys a million dollar mansion over by Eastside Park… Gee I wonder where the $ came from???

The field has no bathrooms and no bleachers to sit down. The light are the same old lights as before for $1.37 million, either things are much more expensive or something is not right here. If you are going to spend over 2.5 millions, field, trailers and basketball court do a project that the people are impressed with the work and no one will complain about the amount of money spent. Good luck and we continue to hope for the best as Paterson residents.

      You have to understand that a percentage of it is going to go into the pockets of Mayor McCheese and whoever else had to sign off on the project. You don't think it really cost that much do you? I paved an entire parking lot for one of my strip malls on route 23 for about $100K and it's way bigger than this park, probably ten or fifteen times the size. Then again I didn't have to pay a bribe to the town…

    I'll do it for half of that, that's a bloated budget due to the graft priced in for Mayor McCheese and the other crooks on the take.
