A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged for his alleged role in a double shooting, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police charged the boy, who is a Paterson resident, with juvenile delinquency which would constitute first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose if he were an adult.
Charges against the boy spring from the Friday shooting outside of 378 Rosa Parks Boulevard. 22-year-old Sadott Free was killed and 24-year-old Quadir McRae was wounded, authorities said.
McRae was admitted and later released from St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.
Detectives determined the boy and McRae were traveling with a woman that dropped them off at the restaurant at the location. Moments later, McRae and Free allegedly got into a physical fight outside at which time the boy allegedly shot at Free, striking him in the torso.
Suffering from the gunshot wound, Free went into the restaurant to seek help before emergency responders arrived.
McRae was struck in the leg when shots were fired by the boy. McRae and the boy were driven to the hospital by the same woman that dropped them off at the restaurant, authorities said.
Authorities said the case has been referred to the Passaic County Family Court, Juvenile Part for further proceedings.
