Video shows Paterson police firing at armed man after ordering him to drop weapon

Carroll-Street-police-shooting

A video captured by an eyewitness of Thursday’s police-involved shooting in Paterson shows an armed man pacing at the Carroll-Harrison intersection ignoring police orders to drop his weapon.

“Drop the f–king gun,” a police officer yells at the armed suspect. The unidentified suspect is seen in the video, gun in hand, walking in the direction of two police officer. One police officer, weapon drawn, takes cover behind an utility pole while another falls back as the suspect is seen walking towards them.

Several other police officers take cover behind their vehicles. Some spectators encourage police to shoot the suspect.

“Kill that n–ga,” yells a male voice.

“If he was black, ya’ll would have been shot that n–ga, man,” a male voice is heard saying in the video.

“Light that n–ga up,” yells a female voice.

The white suspect with a handgun continues to pace back and forth at the intersection.

“Once he raises it, they gonna shoot him,” a male voice is heard saying in the video. A female voice says he already raised the gun at police.

The suspect is seen raising his weapon and a series of shots are fired by police. The video appears to show the suspect returning fire. He falls to the ground.

The shooting took place outside of 50 Carroll Street at about 4:20 p.m. New Jersey Attorney General’s Office announced that it is investigating the incident.

No details of the incident have been made public.

I would say the voices of the spectators were correct. If he wasn't white he would have been killed by police the first time he pointed a weapon at them.

The people urging police to shoot and kill have no respect for themselves or human life, race notwithstanding. No doubt many of these people are the same people who are out in groups in defiance of the stay at home orders.

The reality is that you have not even the slightest understanding about what it means to be black in America. In what way have you ever expressed any concern about police shooting, assaulting or arresting an unarmed black man? Have you written a letter? Made a post? Tweeted? Shared with a friend? Texted? My guess is that it has and will never rise high enough in your list of concerns for you to ever say or do anything or even accept that their is racial injustice in this country. You just want to make it great again, I guess.

You’re wrong, I did not respond to or argue with the actions of the police. Try reading the article and my comment again.

Actually, if you saw the video, he appeared to be highly distressed. Probably mentally ill. Maybe commiting suicide by police without realizing how hard it is to get police to shoot a white man. But you are probably too caught up in your own prejudices to have concern for your fellow human beings.

      Obviously you are priviledged.

Imagine if white people were yelling about a black person instead of Black people?
If whites said it, there would be riots everywhere in black suburbs while it continues to be set on fire by it's residents.
I guess not having freedoms to express ourselves as we want is part of being a white person nowadays.

White cops execute blacks all the time and rarely are there riots. They killed a black man in a Walmart in CA because he had a bat. White people always want to flip the script to justify the unjustifiable. Please really think about what you said in the real context of being black in America. I don't think you can, but I hope you will try.

No black person anywhere in America has ever been allowed to walk around with a gun in their possession like this and not gotten shot virtually without warning. One name: Tamir Rice.
