Unauthorized Mexican immigrant gets 8-year prison sentence for raping 15-year-old Paterson girl

An unauthorized Mexican immigrant has been sentenced to 95 months or nearly eight years in federal prison for coercing and enticing a 15-year-old Paterson girl.

Juan Carlos Morales-Pedraza, 35, of Paterson, previously pleaded guilty to coercion and enticement of a minor and illegally re-entering the United States after having previously been deported, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig’s Office.

Morales-Pedraza was sentenced on Tuesday. He was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.

Morales-Pedraza approached the 15-year-old girl in Passaic County on April 13, 2019. Two days later he engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim and left New Jersey en route to Illinois. He admitted he planned to engage in sexual conduct with the victim in Illinois.

Morales-Pedraza was arrested in Ohio by state troopers.

  Keep in mind, I do not approve of the act. I think that any adult who has sex with a minor should be severely punished. However, you have to consider the difficulty that many illegal immigrants face without having the education and resources to become documented. Many Mexicans live in fear every day, and they flee for their own safety and that of their family. Rather than getting mad at undocumented immigrants, we should be giving them more resources to come to the U.S. legally.
  
  Also, what do you say about a 24 year-old American citizen who has sex with a 15 year-old girl? My boyfriend's "loser" cousin is guilty of such an act. However, rather than going to jail, he got to continue his relationship and they have a baby together now. He's now 35 and she's 24. They have a 1-year-old child together. One day she's going to realize the impact that he had on helping ruin her life, and they'll be divorced by the time that she's 40.
