Ex-mayors Jones, Torres running to unseat Sayegh in Paterson mayoral race

Former mayors Jeffery Jones and Jose “Joey” Torres have picked up petitions to challenge incumbent Andre Sayegh in next year’s mayoral race.

Jones and Torres are among eight potential mayoral candidates for the May 2022 election. They will need to produce nearly 870 valid signatures by early March to get on the ballot next year.

Others are community improvement director David Gilmore, indicted council members Alex Mendez and Michael Jackson, Daniel Burgos Mejia, and councilman Luis Velez.

Jones’ four years in office is widely viewed as a failure. Torres was convicted for stealing from taxpayers. Mendez and Jackson have been indicted for election fraud.

More candidates are likely to emerge as the race gets underway. The petition process opened on Thursday morning.

    Jones was a 100% worthless POS failure. Torres used city workers for a few hours for personal stuff, other then that Torres did more for Paterson then most other Mayors. Now look at this Mayor, a pathetic POS who has broke record crime setting numbers. Like all Democrats he will blame everything else except himself. Why would a true American vote for this type of garbage as Mayor? Patersonians deserve to get shit. Want the ghetto to stay ghetto then either vote for the current Mayor or Jones the dummy.

    I own in Paterson. All politicians in Paterson are garbage. In fact.most Democrats are garbage and some Republicans are garbage. All I said was Jones was the worst, a breathing dummy. Thus Mayor only worries about his Muslims. The minorities in Paterson are being victimized in all sorts of ways with this Mayor. This developer is sucking Paterson dry. Not one new bldg is paying a penny in taxes. Not right
