Naszhere M. Jones, 25, of South Hackensack, was convicted on Thursday of reckless manslaughter, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, authorities said.

The jury trial, which began with jury selection on August 7, resulted in the guilty verdicts after about one and a half days of deliberations.

Evidence presented by prosecutors revealed that on March 3, 2021, Jones shot 35-year-old Jaquan Harrison on North 6th and Clinton streets in Paterson. Jones shot Harrison once in the back at close range following an altercation. Surveillance video captured segments of the events both before and after the shooting, which showed Jones fleeing the scene.

The U.S. Marshals Service, aided by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department, apprehended Jones on July 2, 2021, in Old Bridge.

While a sentencing date remains unscheduled, authorities stated that the charges for which Jones was convicted carry a potential total maximum of 30 years in state prison.
