On Thursday eleven prostitutes were arrested in the surrounding areas of Broadway in Paterson by the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office and charged with soliciting an undercover detective.
These aggressive crackdowns are used to improve the neighborhood, according to Richard Berdnik, the Passaic County Sheriff.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office sent one of their own dressed as a civilian in the areas around Broadway when prostitutes came up to him offering sex — as soon as prostitutes solicited the detective other officers cuffed them.
Altogether eleven arrests were made; among them Amber Storms, 22-year-old, of Passaic, who was working the streets of Van Houten and East 18th Streets – the only one that was not a resident of Paterson.
These ten women were from Paterson arrested in the surrounding areas of Broadway: Ashley Larsen, 27, who was apprehended near Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard; Brook Hobbs, 31, arrested near Broadway and Carroll Street; Jeanne Burke, 39, near Van Houten and East 18th Streets; Libby Sullivan, 44, near Broadway and Straight Street; Shanhetta Frierson, 31, near Summer and Ellison Streets; Iesha Spruill, 32, near Van Houten and Carroll Streets; Maribel Algarin, 37, near Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard; Latasha Zimmon, 41, near Rosa Parks Boulevard and Van Houten Street; Marika Stewart, 43, near Van Houten Street and Rosa Parks Boulevard; Michelle Askew, 48, near Broadway and Carroll Street.
Out of the 11 women only four were released due to no previous criminal records – all are awaiting court appearance.
