16-year-old wounded by gunfire near Mercer Street


A teenager was the victim of a shooting incident near Warren Street on Friday night, according to Paterson Police.

The victim, 16-year-old, was in the area of Warren and Mercer Streets, at around 10pm on Friday, when he heard sound of gunfire. After hearing the the gunshot sound, the boy attempted to escape the area, but soon realized a bullet had landed on his right hand.

The teenager flagged down a passing-by taxi and used it to transport himself to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he is being treated; he remains in stable condition at the hospital.

Police are unsure whether the teen was the intended target of the gunfire; authorities are investigating the incident.
