56-year-old robbed and shot near Summer Street

An older man was left wounded near Summer Street on Friday evening after two men approached him and robbed him of his belonging, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 56-year-old, who works in the area, was near Summer and Lawrence Streets, at around 6:57 p.m. on Friday, when he was approached by two men, one of them with a gun, who pointed a gun at the victim and robbed him. “The victim was outside on the street near a vehicle when he was approached by two males, who proceeded to rob him at gunpoint,” according to police. It is unclear what the suspects robbed from the victim.

After the victim was robbed, he, fearing for his life, began to run out of the area, when the suspect equipped with the gun released a single shot, wounding the victim in the back. “After having his personal belongings taken from him, the victim ran from the area and while fleeing, the suspect (s) fired a single round, striking the victim,” according to police.

Officers arrived on the scene, and had the victim transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he is being treated for his wound. Earlier during the day a teenager, 15-year-old, was shot multiple times, about one mile away on Jefferson Street, who was rushed to the hospital and remains there and is undergoing surgery.
