Paterson police seize 4,700 packets of heroin in Governor Street bust

Governor-Street

The police arrested an alleged drug dealer on Governor Street on Tuesday and seized 4,700 glassine envelopes of heroin, according to police director Jerry Speziale.

Yuron Towns, 22-year-old, of Paterson, was charged with 16 drug offenses. Police said he was inside a white Ford Taurus parked in an open lot between 208 and 204 Governor Street. His vehicle was facing Governor Street with its headlights on.

Police officers Jonathan Traynor and James Iandoli approached the vehicle. Towns was observed in the driver’s seat smoking a marijuana joint. When he opened the driver’s side door a strong odor of marijuana overwhelmed the officers.

Officers asked what he was doing in the area.

“Smoking weed,” replied Towns, police said. He showed officers marijuana in his hand. Police illuminated the interior of the vehicle with a flashlight.

Two bricks of heroin in rubber bands was observed.

Towns was ordered out of the vehicle and placed under arrest. Police recovered an open gift bag that had 92 bricks of heroin, a large plastic bag containing marijuana, 11 clear green plastic vials of marijuana, an orange prescription bottle containing 25 Xanax pills, and 4 yellow baggies of crack cocaine.

In all police seized 94 bricks which amounts to 2.5 pounds of heroin. Also confiscated was $1,200 in cash from Towns.

“I am proud of these officers’ efforts to further investigate a suspicious situation, which led to these drugs being removed from our streets,” Speziale said.
