Three people have been certified to run for the 1st Ward city council seat on Monday afternoon, according to the city clerk’s office.
Candidates hoping to capture the seat are incumbent Michael Jackson, Veronica Ovalles, and Antoinette Brevard.
Jackson handily won the November 2015 special election with 714 votes. The special election was called after former councilman Anthony Davis was sentenced to two years in prison for taking bribes.
Ovalles finished fifth place in that special election. She has since been working to rebuild support and try her luck a second time.
